About
Mindwave Soundworks is a UK studio where spatial audio is the art, not the deliverable.
Twenty-one years of practice across games, installation, and music. The thread running through all of it: space in the work from the beginning, not applied as a format at the end.
01 · Who Adam is
From his childhood, Adam was placing sound in space, wiring extra speakers into a hi-fi. That instinct became a career.
A Film and TV degree led to a placement at a game audio studio in York, then six years there. One of the significant projects of that period was MotorStorm Pacific Rift: 5.1 immersive “live-fi” versions of the soundtrack, with sound-designed crowds built to match the game’s festival theme, laid around tracks by Leftfield, Boys Noize, Aphex Twin, Noisia, Queens of the Stone Age, Death from Above 1979, and David Bowie. The work was designed to feel surrounding rather than stereo. That PlayStation connection lasted.
From York to Liverpool. WipEout at Studio Liverpool. Quadraphonic live performance at the Bluecoat, audio for interactive exhibitions at FACT. Then DRIVECLUB at Evolution Studios, recording cars in surround, including multiple sessions at BMW’s Munich test track and anechoic chamber. The same building housed the early PSVR prototype team, and that proximity meant exploring binaural for hardware that had not launched yet.
On Returnal, Adam’s involvement began before the project formally existed. He scored the pitch material that became the blueprint for the audio team that followed. The binaural announce trailer and the Breaking Down The Cycle developer diary both won Clios.
Afternaut released music from 2011 to 2017 and is returning in 2026. New music composed natively in 7th-order ambisonics from the earliest stage. The Lab is where Adam does what he has always done: exploring creativity and art through technology. It is the thread his whole career grew from. It now has a new home to evolve.
